Mirror, Mirror What is the Right Shade for Me?
Mirror, mirror what is the right shade for me? There are so many hair dyes and millions of color tones making it difficult to decide on just one. Often times we make decisions based on trends, but as I always say and as I advised in my post “The Cuts That Suit You Best,” what looks good on one person might not look good on another.
The key is to use a color that suits your hair best which depends on your age and skin. Remember, not only your hair color changes with age, but the lines on your face change every year.
Getting older for some is difficult to accept and the reality is that no one wants to admit their age, not even me (ha-ha), but as the saying goes, “You’re only as old as you feel” and you don’t have to reveal your age with your look. Being beautiful and sexy can be achieved at any age, simply think to yourself that you are young at heart.
Personally, I don’t recommend cutting your hair shorter with age. I believe that if you have healthy beautiful hair that a medium length cut can create a younger look. Additionally, I feel that with age you should not dye your hair darker because the lines on your face become more defined.
In contrast, I believe that lighter colors soften the face and expression lines. Highlights are a good way to achieve a softer look while at the same time hiding gray strands as the mix in with the rest of the hair.
A lot of times we see an artist and we become obsessed with having the same look and style without taking into account that we don’t have the same hair and/or features. There are cuts and styles that work well on some hair types and not others. The ideal scenario is to look for a style that takes into account your lifestyle, job and overall personality.
In conclusion don’t choose hair colors that are too dark (they also require more maintenance), don’t let your favorite celebs be your hair style guide and as I always advise you it is essential to have a healthy scalp in order to achieve beautiful hair.
Finally, if you decide to not dye your hair anymore and leave your grays in piece, bravo! In this case you can choose a more youthful cut that substitute’s hair color for a modern style. At the end of the day the one that needs to be happy with hair decisions is you. YOU ARE YOUR OWN PERSON AND YOU HAVE ONE LIFE TO LEAD.
Until next time friends and remember, Respect the Scalp!
