You Can Look Great and Save During These Difficult Times
As you know, we are facing challenging economic times, but don’t worry girls you can still be on trend with the latest hairstyles. In this blog I’ll tell you how to save money at the salon and some beauty tricks you can use at home.
A lot of times we use external situations as an excuse to neglect ourselves, when in reality we are only causing harm to ourselves. It’s important to remember that looking beautiful and sexy helps us to face things in life with more ease because we feel more confident in ourselves. Despite what is happening in the world don’t stop caring for you, because in the long run it can actually be more costly.
If you go to the salon (or if you come to see me, your favorite stylist) I recommend the following:
- Before anything, if you have a good relationship with your stylist let him or her know about your current situation and that you are trying to save. Don’t forget that us stylist are here to help you! For example, if you lost your job your stylist may be able to offer a discount and help you look fabulous for your next interview.
- Talk to your stylist about the cuts and do’s that are right for you so that your hair looks beautiful, radiant and above all on trend without requiring too much maintenance.
- Use a color that does not require much work. You don’t have to go back to your natural color, but a darker shade closer to that of your original color will help keep growing roots a bit more camouflaged and then you won’t need to dye your hair as often.
- If you’re not in your 20’s and you have gray hair, use a color two shades lighter than your natural color to hide them. For example, if you have dark brown hair you should dye your hair light brown so that you are not dying your hair as often. Additionally, lighter tones will soften your face.
- Highlights usually require more attention. In order to save money, I recommend darkening your highlights so that you are not doing them so frequently.
- In general hair grows approximately a half inch per month. Instead of cutting your hair every time you have your roots retouched, cut your hair every other time you have your hair dyed. For those of you who don’t dye your hair, I recommend cutting your hair every 8 to 10 weeks instead of 4 to 6 weeks; this way your hair will remain healthy and at the same time you will save.
Ways to Save Outside of the Salon:
- In order to maintain beautiful healthy hair it is important to keep the hair and scalp clean. I recommend washing your hair every other day.
- Moisturizing you hair is essential for shiny hair. Instead of having a deep conditioning treatment done at the salon, which can be costly, use a deep conditioning treatment at home weekly.
- If you can’t frequent the salon but you still want to dye your hair try the hair dyes sold at your local pharmacy, for example, Clairol. Please, please remember that whatever you do to your hair, it has consequences. If your hair is dark brown and you dye it blonde, it will be challenging to dye it back if you are not satisfied.
As a last recommendation, I want to remind you to talk to your stylist about your current situation because we are all being affected. To be honest with you, I prefer that my clients be upfront and honest so that I can find ways to help them out.
Well girls, as you know things are not easy, but you can always look beautiful. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to write me.
Bye, bye friends and remember “Respect the Scalp.”

Hi Antonio,
Posted 11 Nov 2009 at %I:%M %p ¶I have a question. I have oily hair at the roots, but dry hair at the end or tips of my hair. Choosing which shampoo to use has been a challenge because of my combination hair. Can you please let me know which shampoo I should be using because I really do want to have beautiful hair?
Thank you,
Leidy Zapata
Hola Leidy,
Saludos,
Antonio Rosales

The roots are naturally the healthiest part of the hair as they are constantly growing. Your ends may be dry as a result of styling and treatments over time. I recommend cutting at least an inch off all the ends for an instance boost to your hairs health. In terms of Shampoo and Conditioner to be used I recommend using Head & Shoulders Citrus Breeze shampoo which is formulated with citrus extract which helps to control oil leaving hair beautiful and 100% flake free*. Shampoo the roots and massage the scalp. When you rinse the shampoo will flow downward and wash the tips of your hair. Combine the shampoo with Head & Shoulders Restoring Shine conditioner which contains natural plant extracts, and gently purifies scalp and hair to restore natural shine while leaving hair 100% flake free.* The conditioner will help restore shine to your tips. I also invite you to visit HeadandShoulders.com and use the product selector to help in selecting the right shampoo and conditioner: http://headandshoulders.com/es_US/product_selector/default.html
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
